Script

Session 1 Script: Welcome to Women's History Month

Teacher: "Hello everyone! Today we are going to talk about something very special called Women's History Month. Does anyone know what that might be?"

Teacher: "Women's History Month is a time when we learn about amazing women who have done wonderful things. These are women who help us learn, make our community better, or do brave things. Can you think of anyone you know who helps others?"

Teacher: "Great thoughts, everyone! Let’s look at some pictures together. Here, on our special worksheet, you can see pictures of some of these incredible women. Take a good look, and listen as I tell you a little about them."

(Pause to show the picture-based worksheet. Walk around and point to different pictures if possible.)

Teacher: "Now, I have a few questions for you. What does it mean to support someone? Maybe you can share a time when you helped a friend or when someone helped you."

(Allow time for responses and encourage a few students to share their thoughts.)

Teacher: "I love hearing your stories. When we support each other, we help everyone feel strong and happy, just like the amazing women we are learning about today. Can you show me how you might give a friend a big, encouraging smile or a helping hand?"

(Guide students to demonstrate supportive actions — a smile, a thumbs-up, or reaching out with a hand.)

Teacher: "Before we finish, let’s remember that every little bit of support makes our community better. Today, we celebrate amazing women and learn that supporting our friends and each other makes us all shine brightly."

Teacher: "Great job today, everyone! Next time, we will learn even more about wonderful women and how we can continue to lift each other up. Keep smiling and supporting one another!"

Picture-Based Story Cards for Session 2

These cards are designed to help young students visualise and understand the stories of influential women. Each card includes a clear image and a simple narrative about a woman's contributions, emphasizing her role in community support and positive change.

How to Use the Story Cards:

  1. Look at the Image:
Examine the picture that shows a woman engaged in a significant, supportive activity (e.g., teaching, helping in the community, or making a discovery).

  2. Listen to the Story:
Read or listen as the teacher explains the short narrative on the card. The story is brief and tailored to be easily understood by first and second graders.

  3. Matching Emotions Activity:
After hearing the story, take a moment to think about how the woman in the picture might be feeling during her act of support. On a separate piece of paper or the board, match the emotion that best fits her story. Some possible emotions might be happy, proud, calm, or determined.

    Use these guiding questions:

  • What emotion do you think she is showing?
  • How does her emotion help her support others?

  1. Discussion and Matching Activity:
Use these cards during story time. After discussing each story and matching the appropriate emotion, you can do a matching activity where students match the card to its achievement using a simple chart on the board.

These picture-based story cards, now enhanced with a Matching Emotions activity, are intended to reinforce the message that everyone has a unique and important contribution to our community. They offer a hands-on way for students to engage with the material while recognizing that feelings play an important role in how we support one another.

Activity

Empowering Sisterhood Desk Game for Session 2

In this activity, we replace the picture-based story cards with a fun and simple desk game that promotes the value of empowering sisterhood. The activity is designed for first and second graders and encourages collaboration and discussion about influential women and how they support one another.

Game Overview

Students will work in pairs or small groups at their desks. Each group will receive a set of question cards that focus on influential women and the idea of supportive sisterhood. They will discuss the questions and work together to choose or write down their answers. This game fosters teamwork, discussion, and reinforces the key concept that everyone can contribute to a supportive and empowering community.

Materials

  • A set of question cards with simple questions related to influential women and support (questions might include prompts like: "Who is a woman that inspires you? How does she help others?", "What is one way you can support a friend today?" or "Imagine you are helping a friend; how do you feel?")
  • A timer (optional) to keep the game moving
  • A simple score chart on the board (optional) if you wish to add a light competitive element (ensure it remains fun and inclusive)

Instructions for Teachers

  1. Preparation:

    • Before the session, prepare a deck of question cards with age-appropriate questions designed to stimulate thought and discussion about empowering sisterhood. Ensure the questions are simple and focus on shared values and mutual support.
  2. Introduction (3 minutes):

    • Recap the previous session's discussion and explain that today's activity will be a fun desk game where everyone works together to think about amazing women and ways to support each other.
    • Briefly discuss the concept of empowering sisterhood and why it is important.
  3. Game Play (8 minutes):

    • Divide students into pairs or small groups at their desks.
    • Hand out one question card to each group. Ask them to discuss the question and come up with an answer or idea as a group.
    • After a few minutes, invite a few groups to share their answers with the class. Encourage positive reinforcement and discussion from classmates.
    • Optionally, you can use a timer to give each group a set time (e.g., 2 minutes) to discuss each question. Rotate cards if time allows, so each group gets multiple questions.
  4. Wrap-Up (4 minutes):

    • Bring the class together and ask a few reflective questions such as "What did you learn from your partner or group about how we can support one another?" and "How do you feel when you help someone?"
    • Emphasize that every small act of support contributes to a strong, empowered sisterhood where everyone shines.

Follow-Up Points

  • Ask students to think about one way they can show support at school or at home and share their ideas next session.

  • Remind them that empowerment and support are ongoing practices, and every kind word or action matters.

This desk game is a great way to engage students, promote shared values, and encourage practical examples of supporting one another in a simple, accessible format.
