Slide Deck

Career Quest: Discovering Your Future Superpowers!

Welcome, Superheroes! Today, we explore different careers and the special skills (superpowers) needed for each.

Introduce the lesson by welcoming students and explaining today's adventure into the world of careers and superpowers. Use a lively tone to spark curiosity.

What is a Career?

A career is a job or occupation that someone practices. It can be as fun as being an astronaut, a chef, a teacher, and more!

Ask students what they think a career is. Use examples from everyday life and simple language to ensure clarity.

Explore Different Careers

Look at these amazing careers: Firefighter, Doctor, Artist, Scientist, and many more. Which ones do you recognize?

Display images and illustrations of various careers. Encourage students to share if they know someone in these roles or if they've seen these jobs in their community.

Every Career Has a Superpower!

Just like superheroes, each career needs a unique skill! Whether it's creativity, problem-solving, or teamwork, everyone has a superpower.

Discuss the concept of 'superpowers' in careers. Explain that every job needs special skills, similar to how superheroes have unique powers.

Career Matching Activity

Let's mix and match! Work in groups to match each career with its special skill. Discuss why each superpower matters.

Prepare for the interactive career matching activity. Explain how they will match career cards to 'superpower' cards.

Your Superpower, Your Future!

What did you learn today? Think about your own special skill and how it can help you in the future. You all have amazing superpowers!

Wrap up the session with a reflective choice. Ask students to think about their own superpower and share one thing they learned about careers.

Instructions:

  1. Group Division:

    • Divide into small groups of 3-4 students.
    • Each group will receive a set of career cards and a set of superpower (skill) cards.
  2. Matching Challenge:

    • Look at each career card and discuss which superpower skill you think is most important for that career.
    • Place the matching superpower card next to the career card.
    • For each match, talk about why you think that skill is essential for that job.
  3. Group Discussion:

    • After matching all the cards, each group will share one or two of their matches with the whole class.
    • Explain why you paired the cards the way you did and what makes that superpower special for that career.
  4. Teacher Check-In:

    • The teacher will walk around to observe your group discussions, ask questions, and help if you're having trouble matching.

Questions to Consider:

  • What career did your group find the most interesting? Why?
  • What superpower do you think is most common across all careers you matched?
  • Can you think of a time when you used one of these superpowers in your own life?

Follow-Up Points:

Game

Career Quest Superpower Career Game

Welcome, future heroes! In this interactive game, you will step into the shoes of a professional, using your imagination and creativity to explore careers and the unique superpowers (skills) they require. Get ready to role-play, share, and have fun!

Game Setup:

  • Preparation: Before the game, make sure you have a list of various careers and ideas for special skills, like creativity, teamwork, or problem-solving. Your teacher will prepare these in advance.
  • Grouping: You can either play individually or in small groups. If in groups, decide on roles together.

How to Play:

  1. Role Assignment:

    • Each student (or group) picks a career they find interesting. This could be from the list provided, or you might even suggest a different one.
    • Once your career is chosen, think about what superpower (special skill) that career needs. For example, a firefighter might need bravery and quick thinking, while a scientist needs curiosity and problem-solving abilities.
  2. Superpower Declaration:

    • Take a moment to reflect: Do you already have this superpower, or is it something you would like to develop?
    • Write down or draw your chosen career and your superpower on a piece of paper.
  3. Show and Tell:

    • When it’s your turn, stand up and share your career choice and the associated superpower with the class. Explain why this skill is important for the job and how it could help make the world a better place.
    • Listen to your classmates and think about similarities and differences in your choices.
  4. Role-Playing Challenge:

    • To add extra fun, participate in a role-playing activity where you act out a scenario related to your career. For example, if you're a doctor, pretend there's an emergency and show how your superpower can solve the problem.
    • You can do this in pairs or small groups. Your teacher might provide a prompt or scenario to guide the role-play.

Follow-Up Points:

  • Reflection: After the game, think about what career and superpower resonated with you the most. Was there a skill that seemed especially important across different careers?
  • Discussion: Share with your teacher or a classmate how you might work on developing your superpower in real life. Could practicing teamwork or creativity help you shine even brighter?
  • Creativity Boost: Remember, every superhero has a unique power that makes them special. How can you use your skills to make a positive impact in your community?

Enjoy exploring the world of careers and superpowers, and remember: Your future is as bright as your imagination!
