Explore different careers

In this lesson, students will explore different careers through interactive activities and guest speakers. They will reflect on their interests and skills to envision their future careers. This lesson is important as it allows students to start thinking about their future aspirations and understand the variety of career options available to them.

Step 1

Introduction

10 mins

  • Welcome students and introduce the topic of Career Exploration Day.
  • Explain the importance of thinking about future careers and the variety of options available.
  • Briefly outline the schedule for the day.

Step 2

Interactive Career Stations

30 mins

  • Set up different stations in the room, each representing a different career (e.g., doctor, teacher, engineer, artist).
  • Provide materials or props related to each career at the stations.
  • Allow students to rotate through the stations, spending approximately 5 minutes at each one.
  • Encourage students to ask questions and think about what they like or find interesting about each career.

Step 3

Guest Speaker Session

20 mins

  • Invite guest speakers from different professions to talk about their careers.
  • Each speaker should spend about 5 minutes discussing their job, what they do daily, and what skills are needed.
  • Allow students to ask questions after each speaker.

Step 4

Career Interest Reflection

15 mins

  • Distribute the Career Interest Reflection Sheet.
  • Ask students to write down their favorite careers from the day and why they are interested in them.
  • Encourage them to think about their skills and how they align with the careers they liked.

Step 5

Wrap-Up Discussion

15 mins

  • Gather students in a circle for a group discussion.
  • Use the Guest Speaker Discussion Questions to guide the conversation.
  • Encourage students to share their reflections and what they learned about different careers.
  • Summarize the key takeaways from the day and remind students that they have many career options to explore as they grow older.
