Career Planning

This lesson engages 10th-grade students in an experiential learning activity focused on career planning. Students will explore various career paths, reflect on their interests and skills, and discuss their findings with peers. This lesson is important as it helps students begin to think critically about their future careers and the steps they need to take to achieve their goals.

Step 1

Introduction

5 mins

Begin with a brief discussion on the importance of career planning.
Ask students what careers they are interested in and why.

Career Exploration Activity

12 mins

Distribute the Career Exploration Worksheet (English & Portuguese).
Instruct students to choose three careers they are interested in and research basic information about each (e.g., required education, skills, job outlook).
Encourage students to think about how their interests and skills align with these careers.

Step 3

Group Discussion

5 mins

Have students form small groups to discuss their findings.
Use the Discussion Questions to guide the conversation.
Encourage students to share insights and ask questions.

Step 4

Closure

2 mins

Recap the key points discussed.
Encourage students to continue exploring careers and consider what steps they can take now to prepare for their future.
