Career Readiness and College Readiness

In this lesson, PreK students will explore different careers and college concepts through interactive and engaging activities. The lesson aims to introduce the idea of various professions and the importance of education in a fun and simple manner, setting a foundation for future career and college readiness.

Step 1

Introduction

5 mins

Welcome the students and talk briefly about different jobs people do and how going to college helps us learn important things we need for those jobs. Use simple, relatable examples like a teacher, doctor, or firefighter.

Step 2

Interactive Story

10 mins

Watch an interactive story video about a character exploring different careers with Spanish subtitles for emergent learners. Engage students by asking them to identify different jobs they see and why they think those jobs are important.

Step 3

Career Exploration Activity

10 mins

Distribute career and college picture cards. Have students color and identify the career on each card. Encourage them to ask questions about each career and share what they colored. Use simple Spanish words to help emergent learners.

Step 4

Discussion

3 mins

Hold a brief discussion about what they learned. Ask questions like 'What job did you find most interesting?' and 'Why do you think going to college can help you with that job?'

Step 5

Closure

2 mins

Summarize the activities and reinforce the idea that there are many exciting jobs they can do when they grow up, and learning at school and college helps prepare for those jobs.
