Can You Spot It? Lesson Plan
Students will engage in a discussion-based scavenger hunt to spot and celebrate positive peer behaviors, then reinforce their observations through a Behavior Bingo activity and a quick quiz.
By actively noticing and acknowledging positive actions, students build a supportive classroom culture, increase peer-to-peer encouragement, and strengthen Tier 1 behavioral supports.

- Arrange seating so students can easily observe peers during activities
Step 1
Warm-Up: Mindful Observation
5 minutes
- Distribute or display the Mindful Observation Starter Slide
- Prompt students to quietly observe a partner for one minute and note any positive behaviors (e.g., helping, kind words)
- Ask a few volunteers to share what they observed and how it felt to notice positivity
Step 2
Introduction & Discussion: Spot the Positive Prompts
7 minutes
- Introduce the concept of a scavenger hunt for positive behaviors using the Spot the Positive Prompts Scavenger Hunt Guide
- Read aloud each prompt (e.g., “Spot someone showing teamwork,” “Notice a moment of patience”)
- Facilitate whole-class discussion: What did you see? How did it impact the classroom atmosphere?

Activity: Behavior Bingo Card
10 minutes
- Hand out the Behavior Bingo Card Worksheet to each student
- Instruct students to circulate and observe peers, marking a square each time they spot the listed positive behaviors
- Allow students to share “bingos” and describe the behaviors they witnessed

Cool-Down: Quick Behavior Quiz
3 minutes
- Distribute the Quick Behavior Quiz Handout
- Students answer brief questions reflecting on today’s positive observations (e.g., “Name one peer behavior you noticed,” “How will you reinforce positivity tomorrow?”)
- Collect responses and briefly highlight a few examples to close the lesson

Discussion: Spot the Positive Prompts
Use the scavenger-hunt prompts to notice behaviors:
• Spot someone showing teamwork.
• Notice a moment of patience.
• Find an example of helping others.
• Identify acts of encouragement.
Introduce discussion prompts from the guide. Read each aloud and facilitate sharing.
Activity: Behavior Bingo Card
- Get your bingo card worksheet.
- Circulate and mark off behaviors as you spot them.
- Shout “Bingo!” when you complete a row/column.
- Share one behavior you observed.
Explain the Behavior Bingo rules. Distribute worksheets. Encourage movement and observation.
Cool-Down: Quick Behavior Quiz
Answer briefly:
- Name one positive peer behavior you noticed today.
- How did it make you feel?
- How will you reinforce positivity tomorrow?
Hand out the quiz handout. Allow 2–3 minutes for completion. Collect responses.

Spot the Positive Prompts Guide
Use these prompts during your classroom scavenger hunt to notice and celebrate positive peer behaviors. For each prompt:
- Observe quietly for a minute.
- Identify a classmate demonstrating the behavior.
- Share your observation and thoughts with a partner or the whole class.
1. Teamwork
What to look for:
- Peers collaborating, sharing ideas, or dividing tasks fairly.
Discussion Questions:
- Who showed strong teamwork?
- How did their actions benefit the group?
- How can you encourage teamwork next time?
2. Patience
What to look for:
- Waiting calmly for a turn or listening without interrupting.
Discussion Questions:
- Who practiced patience?
- What did they do to stay patient?
- How did it affect the person speaking or waiting?
3. Encouragement
What to look for:
- Offering kind words, compliments, or positive feedback.

- What encouraging words did you hear?
- How did the recipient react?
- How might your own encouraging words make someone’s day?
4. Helping Behavior
What to look for:
- Offering assistance, sharing supplies, or guiding a peer without being asked.
Discussion Questions:
- Who stepped in to help?
- What impact did their help have?
- How can you show help in small ways today?
5. Problem-Solving
What to look for:
- Peers working through disagreement or tackling a challenge together.
Discussion Questions:
- What strategy did they use?
- What was the outcome?
- Could you apply this strategy in your own conflicts?
6. Inclusion
What to look for:
- Inviting someone new into a group or ensuring everyone’s voice is heard.
Discussion Questions:
- Who made someone feel included?
- Why is inclusion important?
- How will you invite others to join today?
7. Respectful Listening
What to look for:
- Eyes on the speaker, nodding, or asking clarifying questions.
Discussion Questions:
- How did they show they were listening?
- How does respectful listening improve our classroom?
- What listening habit will you practice next?
Follow-Up Reinforcement Ideas
- After each observation, ask students to verbally praise the peer they spotted.
- Have students write a quick thank-you note or sticky-note shout-out and post it on a “Positivity Wall.”
- Encourage students to reflect in their journals: “One way I will reinforce positivity tomorrow is….”
