Warm-Up: How Do You Feel? (4 minutes)
Teacher: "Hi, Calm Crew! Welcome to our first session. Let's start by checking in. I want everyone to think of one word that describes how they are feeling right now. When it's your turn, please share your word with the group. I'll go first: I'm feeling hopeful today. What about you, [Student Name]?"
(Go around the circle, allowing each student to share. Acknowledge and validate all feelings.)
Teacher: "Wow, thank you for sharing! It's totally normal to feel all sorts of different emotions throughout the day. Sometimes we feel happy, sometimes we feel excited, and sometimes... sometimes our feelings can get really big, right? Has anyone ever felt their feelings get so big it's hard to think or focus?"
(Allow for brief responses and nods.)
Introduce Self-Regulation (4 minutes)
Teacher: "Well, today, we're going to discover something amazing! We all have a superpower inside us that helps us when our feelings get big. It helps us calm our mind and body so we can think clearly and feel better. We call these our Chill Tools!"
(Display Calm Crew Slide Deck - Session 1 - Slide 3: Our Superpower: Chill Tools!)
Teacher: "These Chill Tools are like special tricks we can use to help ourselves feel calm. They are easy to learn, and we can use them anywhere! Let's learn our first Chill Tool."
Chill Tool 1: Belly Breathing (7 minutes)
(Display Calm Crew Slide Deck - Session 1 - Slide 4: Chill Tool 1: Belly Breathing)
Teacher: "Our first Chill Tool is called Belly Breathing! It's like giving your belly a gentle hug with air. I'm going to give each of you a small, soft toy or a beanbag. This will help us see our breath move."
(Distribute soft toys/beanbags.)
Teacher: "Now, I want everyone to lie down on their backs, or if you prefer, you can sit up straight. Place your toy right on your belly button."
(Model the action for students.)
Teacher: "Great! Now, we're going to breathe in slowly through our noses, and as we do, imagine we're filling our bellies with air like a balloon. Watch your toy go UP!"
(Inhale slowly.)
Teacher: "Now, slowly breathe out through your mouth, like you're blowing out a candle. Watch your toy go DOWN!"
(Exhale slowly.)
Teacher: "Let's try that together a few times. Breathe in... up goes the toy! Breathe out... down goes the toy!"
(Guide students through 3-5 rounds of belly breathing. Encourage them to close their eyes if comfortable and really feel their bodies.)
Teacher: "How did that feel? Did you notice your toy moving? Did your body feel a little more calm? This is a wonderful tool you can use anytime you feel big feelings starting to bubble up."
Chill Tool 2: Counting Down (6 minutes)
(Display Calm Crew Slide Deck - Session 1 - Slide 5: Chill Tool 2: Counting Down)
Teacher: "Another super quick Chill Tool is Counting Down! Sometimes, when our brains are feeling fuzzy or overwhelmed, just counting can help us focus and calm down."
Teacher: "Here's how it works: We'll pick a number, like 5 or 10, and we'll count backwards, slowly, taking a gentle breath with each number. Let's try counting down from 5 together!"
Teacher: "Ready? Take a deep breath in... and as you breathe out, say FIVE."
(Guide students: "Four... (breathe), Three... (breathe), Two... (breathe), One... (breathe)! Phew! Calm!" Follow along with hand gestures if helpful.)
Teacher: "How did that feel? When might be a good time to use this counting down tool? Maybe when you're feeling frustrated with a game? Or when you're waiting for something important?"
(Allow for a few student responses.)

(Allow a few students to share.)
Teacher: "Great! Today, we're going to become 'Body Detectives'! Our bodies are really good at telling us how we're feeling. Has anyone ever felt butterflies in their tummy when they were nervous? Or maybe tight shoulders when they were frustrated?"
(Allow for brief responses and discussion.)
Introduce Body Awareness (5 minutes)

(Display Calm Crew Slide Deck - Session 2 - Slide 3: Chill Tool 3: 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding)
Teacher: "Our new Chill Tool is called 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding! It uses all five of our senses to bring us back to the present moment. Let's try it together! You can sit up straight or keep your eyes open or closed, whatever feels best."
Teacher: "First, let's find 5 things you can SEE around you. Look around the room slowly. Can you silently name five things you see? I see the clock, the window, a book, your amazing faces, and a pencil. Take a slow breath after you name each one in your head."
(Pause and allow students to look and breathe.)
Teacher: "Next, let's find 4 things you can HEAR. Listen very carefully. What sounds do you notice right now? Maybe the hum of the lights, my voice, someone moving, sounds from outside. Again, take a slow breath after each sound you notice."
(Pause and allow students to listen and breathe.)
Teacher: "Now, let's find 3 things you can FEEL. What can you feel right now? The chair under you, your clothes on your skin, your feet on the floor, your hands together. Notice three things you can feel and take a slow breath with each one."
(Pause and allow students to feel and breathe.)
Teacher: "Great job! Now, let's find 2 things you can SMELL. What do you smell? Maybe the smell of your clothes, a faint smell from lunch, or nothing at all! Even 'nothing' is something to notice. Take a slow breath."
(Pause.)
Teacher: "And finally, 1 thing you can TASTE. What does your mouth taste like right now? Maybe a little bit of toothpaste, or water, or nothing. Just notice it and take one last slow, calming breath."
(Pause for a final breath.)
Share & Reflect (6 minutes)
Teacher: "How did that feel, Calm Crew? Did using your senses help you feel more calm or focused?"

Chill Tool 4: Gentle Stretches (8 minutes)
(Display Calm Crew Slide Deck - Session 3 - Slide 3: Chill Tool 4: Gentle Stretches)
Teacher: "Our first movement Chill Tool is Gentle Stretches. When we stretch slowly and gently, it helps our muscles relax and tells our brain it's okay to calm down. Let's try some!"
Teacher: "Everyone, sit or stand tall. Let's reach our arms up, up, up to the sky, like you're trying to touch the clouds! Take a deep breath in... and then slowly let your arms float down as you breathe out. Let's do that two more times. Really feel your body stretching."
(Guide students through 2-3 gentle, slow repetitions.)
Teacher: "Now, let's try some gentle side bends. Reach one arm up and slowly bend to the other side, like a tall tree swaying in a gentle breeze. Feel the stretch. Take a slow breath. Now the other side. Great job!"

(Guide students to hold the pose.)
Teacher: "Now, let's try the Wonder Worker Pose! Stand tall, open your arms wide like you're ready to give a big hug, and lift your chin slightly. Feel how open and ready you are! Hold it. Breathe slowly."

(Allow students to share and briefly recall. Encourage a quick demonstration if time permits.)
Teacher: "Fantastic! Today, we're going to use another superpower you all have: your imagination! Who here loves to imagine things? Maybe imagining you're flying, or imagining a super fun adventure? How does using your imagination make you feel?"
(Allow for a few brief responses.)
Introduce My Calm Space (5 minutes)
Teacher: "That's right! Imagination can make us feel happy, excited, and even calm! Today, we're going to use our imagination to create a very special place in our minds. It's called My Calm Space, and it's a secret, peaceful place only you can go to whenever you need to feel calm and safe."
(Display Calm Crew Slide Deck - Session 4 - Slide 2: Your Secret Calm Space!)
Teacher: "No matter what's happening around you, you can close your eyes and visit your calm space in your mind. It's always there, just for you!"

(Display Calm Crew Slide Deck - Session 4 - Slide 3: Chill Tool 6: My Calm Space)
Teacher: "Alright, Calm Crew, let's try it! I invite you to find a comfortable position, sitting up tall or leaning back. If you feel comfortable, gently close your eyes, or you can soften your gaze by looking at the floor. Take a few slow, gentle breaths."
(Pause. Optional: Play quiet, calming background music.)
Teacher: "Now, imagine your very own, perfect Calm Space. This can be any place you want! Maybe it's a cozy treehouse, a sunny beach, a magical garden, or even a soft cloud. It's perfect just for you."
(Pause.)
Teacher: "What do you SEE in your calm space? Are there bright colors, soft shadows, sparkling lights? What animals or friends might be there?"
(Pause.)
Teacher: "What do you HEAR in your calm space? Is there soft music, the sound of waves, birds singing, or perhaps comforting silence?"
(Pause.)
Teacher: "What do you FEEL in your calm space? Is the ground soft under your feet? Do you feel a gentle breeze, a warm blanket, or the cozy hug of a favorite toy?"
(Pause.)
Teacher: "What do you SMELL in your calm space? Maybe fresh flowers, a yummy treat, or clean air?"
(Pause.)
Teacher: "And what do you TASTE in your calm space? Maybe a cool drink, your favorite candy, or simply freshness in your mouth?"
(Pause.)
Teacher: "Spend a few more moments in your calm space, feeling safe and peaceful. Take one last deep, calming breath here."
(Pause.)
Teacher: "Slowly, when you're ready, wiggle your fingers and toes, and gently open your eyes, bringing that calm feeling back with you to our room."
