Understanding Personal Boundaries

This lesson uses a simplified game-based approach to teach lower-functioning autistic middle school students about personal boundaries. Step 1

Introduction

Step 2

Boundary Builders Game

20 minutes

  • Divide students into small groups with support from aides if available.
  • Provide each group with a set of Visual Boundary Scenario Cards.
  • Explain the rules using visual aids: Each card presents a scenario where boundaries are involved. Students discuss and decide the best way to handle the situation with guidance.
  • Encourage students to role-play the scenarios with support to better understand the concept of boundaries.

Step 3

Closure

5 minutes

  • Gather students and discuss what they learned from the game using visual aids.
  • Ask students to share one new thing they learned about boundaries with support.
  • Reinforce the importance of respecting others' boundaries in everyday interactions using simple language.
