Boundaries Matter!

Understanding personal boundaries

This lesson introduces 3rd graders to the concept of personal boundaries, both physical and emotional. Through interactive activities and discussions, students will learn to recognize and respect their own boundaries and those of others. Understanding personal boundaries is crucial for developing healthy relationships and self-awareness, and this lesson aims to provide students with the tools to communicate their needs effectively. Step 1

    • Describe boundaries as invisible lines that help us feel safe and comfortable in our interactions with others.
    • Discuss how boundaries can be both physical (like personal space) and emotional (like feelings and thoughts).
    • Explain that respecting boundaries helps us maintain healthy relationships by ensuring that everyone feels valued and understood.
    • Highlight that boundaries allow us to communicate our needs and preferences clearly, which helps prevent misunderstandings and conflicts.
    • Emphasize that understanding and respecting boundaries is a way to show kindness and respect to ourselves and others.

Session 1: Group Discussion
