Slide Deck

Welcome to Emotional Well-Being

Today we will explore how our personal boundaries protect our feelings and help us take care of ourselves.

Welcome the students and introduce the topic of emotional well-being. Explain that today's lesson will connect how setting personal boundaries helps keep our emotions safe and healthy.

What Are Boundaries?

Boundaries are rules or limits that we set for ourselves. They help us decide what is okay for us and what is not.

Define boundaries in simple language and give examples that are relatable to 5th graders. Ask them for examples of boundaries in daily life.

Types of Boundaries

• Emotional Boundaries: Protect how we feel.
• Physical Boundaries: Protect our personal space.
• Digital Boundaries: Protect our online interactions.

Discuss the types of boundaries. Use simple terms: emotional, physical, and digital. Encourage them to share examples if they feel comfortable.

Why Boundaries Matter

Boundaries help us:
• Stay safe
• Feel respected
• Manage our emotions effectively
• Develop healthy relationships

Explain why boundaries are important for emotional health. Highlight how they help us manage feelings, keep us safe and make healthy choices.

Reflect & Share

Think: What is one boundary you can set to protect your feelings?
Share your thoughts with a partner or the group.

Wrap up the presentation by inviting students to think about one boundary they can set for themselves. Ask reflective questions to ensure engagement.

Activity

Emotional Boundaries Mapping Activity

This activity lets you draw and organize your own map of boundaries to understand how different limits help protect your feelings and personal space. Follow the steps below:

Instructions

  1. Introduction (3 minutes):

The teacher will describe different types of boundaries: emotional, physical, and digital. Listen carefully!

  2. Individual Mapping (7 minutes):

    • On a blank sheet of paper, draw three large circles labeled "Emotional," "Physical," and "Digital."
    • Inside each circle, write or draw examples of your own boundaries. For emotional boundaries, you might draw a heart and words like "I need quiet time," or for physical boundaries a house or a fence, and for digital boundaries a computer with symbols like "no sharing passwords."

  3. Pair Discussion (5 minutes):

    • Partner up and show each other your diagrams.
    • Talk about why you chose those boundaries and how they help keep you safe and happy.

  4. Group Sharing (Optional, depending on time):

    • Volunteers can share their maps with the entire class.
    • Discuss the similarities and differences. What can we learn from each other about setting boundaries?

Reflection

After the activity, reflect on the following questions (write or draw your thoughts):

  • How do these boundaries help protect your feelings?
  • Why do you think it’s important to have boundaries in each area?

Happy Mapping!
