Lesson Plan
Boost Protocol Guide
Students will learn and practice the Boost Protocol by identifying positive behaviors, giving tokens, and celebrating peers, enabling them to reinforce positive actions independently.
Positive reinforcement builds social skills, encourages cooperation, and fosters a supportive classroom environment by rewarding desired behaviors immediately.

Slide Deck
Boost in Action!
A fun, 3-step way to spot positive behaviors and give them a BOOST!
Welcome the class and set a positive tone. Say: “Today we’re going to learn a special way to notice and celebrate each other’s good actions—our Boost Protocol!”
What Is the Boost Protocol?
- Give a Token
- Say Nice Words
- Have a Mini-Celebration
Explain that Boost Protocol has three easy steps. Point to each bullet as you say it clearly and slowly.
Step 1: Give a Token
• Look for a good action (sharing, helping, listening)
• Hand over a fun token (star, sticker, card)
Show a sample token (star, smiley face, etc.). Say: “When you see a friend being kind or helpful, hand them a token to show you noticed!”
Step 2: Say Nice Words
• Use immediate praise so your friend feels proud:
“Great sharing!”
“Nice listening!”
“Awesome teamwork!”
Model the praise phrase. Encourage kids to use kind words like “Great job sharing!” or “Thank you for helping me!”
Step 3: Mini-Celebration
• Clap hands or give a high-five
• Do a happy cheer or tiny dance
• Make it quick and fun!
Demonstrate a quick celebration: clap, cheer, or a little dance. Keep it short and joyful!
Let’s Practice: Token Toss
• Sit in a circle with tokens and bucket
• Spot a positive behavior in a friend
• Toss your token in the bucket AND use your Boost steps!
Introduce the Token Toss Game. Say: “Now let’s practice by playing Token Toss! Use your Boost steps when you see someone do something great.”
High-Five Exit
• Share a positive behavior you saw today
• Give your friend a high-five using our Boost cheer
• Collect your sticker for a final mini-celebration!
Bring the class to the door for the High-Five Exit. Ask each student to share one thing they noticed and give them a high-five.
Game
Token Toss Game
Objective: Reinforce the Boost Protocol by having students spot positive behaviors, toss tokens, and celebrate peers in a fun circle game.
Materials:
- Token cards or colorful counters from the Token Toss Game Kit
- A small bucket or container placed at the center of the circle
- Instant Kudos Tracker Worksheet and crayons (to record each student’s tokens)
Setup:
- Arrange all students in a seated circle, with the bucket in the center.
- Distribute 3–5 tokens to each student.
- Give each student a copy of the Instant Kudos Tracker Worksheet and a crayon.
How to Play:
- Teacher starts by modeling: identify a friend’s positive action (e.g., sharing crayons), say praise ("Great sharing!"), hand the friend a token, then give a quick clap or cheer.
- The friend records “+1 token” on their tracker and takes a turn: they look for someone else’s kindness or helper moment.
- When they spot it, they:
- Give a token (toss gently into the bucket while saying praise aloud)
- Celebrate with a mini-clap, high-five, or tiny dance
- That peer then marks their worksheet and takes the next turn.
- Continue until all tokens are used or time is up.
Rules:
- Only toss a token when you can say a Boost-style praise phrase.
- Keep your turn brief: one token and one mini-celebration per turn.
- Be kind and patient—cheer quietly so everyone can hear their praise!
Tracking & Reflection:
- As tokens accumulate in the bucket, count them together: “We saw 12 nice actions!”
- Quick discussion: “Which praise phrase did you like best?”
Variation (Extension):
- Team Toss: Split circle in half. Which team can spot the most positive behaviors in 3 rounds?

Cool Down
High-Five Exit Cool-Down Routine
Time: 5 minutes
- Line up in a single file at the classroom door.
- Teacher says: “On your way out, share one positive thing you noticed today.”
- Student steps forward, states their observation (e.g., “I saw Alex helping clean up!”), then gives the teacher a high-five.
- Teacher responds with warm praise (“Great noticing kindness!”) and hands the student a sticker or stamp as a final mini-celebration.
- Student exits quietly with a smile.
This quick routine encourages reflection, reinforces the Boost Protocol, and ends class on a positive, high-energy note!
