Behavior Boost

Lesson Plan

Boost Feedback Flow

Deliver a structured 10-minute session that starts with a positive check-in to set a daily behavior goal and ends with a supportive check-out to reflect, reinforce success, and update the Goal Star Sticker Chart.

Regular, targeted check-ins and check-outs build consistency, boost confidence, and help 1st graders practice self-regulation by linking positive feedback to clear goals.

Step 1

Check-In

5 minutes

  • Greet the student warmly by name and invite them to sit together.
  • Use Check-In Positive Prompt Script to:
    • Remind the student of yesterday’s success or improvement.
    • Highlight one specific positive behavior they showed.
  • Collaborate to set today’s single, clear behavior goal (e.g., “Use walking feet in the hallway”).
  • Have the student place one star on the Goal Star Sticker Chart to mark their commitment.
  • Offer brief, genuine praise to reinforce confidence before sending them off for the day.

Step 2

Check-Out

5 minutes

  • Welcome the student to a quiet spot in the afternoon.
  • Lay out the Afternoon Reflection Circle and guide the student through prompts:
    • “What went well with your goal today?”
    • “How did you feel when you reached that goal?”
  • Provide targeted feedback on their specific behavior goal.
  • If the student met or exceeded the goal, award an additional star on the Goal Star Sticker Chart.
  • Ask the student what strategy helped them and one thing they’ll try again tomorrow.
  • Close with a positive affirmation (e.g., “I’m proud of your hard work today!”).

Check-In Positive Prompt Script

Teacher: "Good morning, [Student Name]! I'm so happy to see you today."

Teacher: "Yesterday, you did a fantastic job using your walking feet in the hallway. Can you tell me how that felt?"

Teacher: "That's wonderful! Today, let's pick one behavior to focus on. What is one thing you feel you can do really well today?"

Teacher (if needed): "You could try raising your hand when you want to share an idea, or walking quietly in the hallway. What sounds good to you?"

Teacher: "I love that choice! Our goal for today is: [Student's Goal]. Let's say it together — [Student's Goal]."

Teacher: "Fantastic! Now, let's put a star on your Goal Star Sticker Chart to show your commitment. Can you place this star on the chart?"

Teacher: "Awesome job! You’re ready to shine today. Remember, I believe in you and I’m proud of you. Have a great morning!"
