Improve Attendance

In this lesson, students will create their own superhero personas and discuss how being present every day helps them become stronger and smarter. They will use a Richter scale to self-assess their attendance, setting goals for improvement. This lesson will foster a sense of responsibility and the importance of regular attendance.

Step 1

Introduction

5 minutes

  • Greet the students and introduce the topic of attendance.
  • Discuss why regular attendance is important for their learning and growth.
  • Inform them that they will be creating their own superhero personas and using a Richter scale to assess their attendance.

Step 2

Point Scale Pre-Assessment

5 minutes

  • Distribute the Point Scale Pre-Assessment Worksheet.
  • Explain each question and have students rate themselves on a scale from 1 to 5.
  • Collect the worksheets to review their current attitudes and understanding of attendance.

Step 3

Superhero Creation

10 minutes

  • Hand out superhero mask templates and drawing materials.
  • Ask students to think of a superhero persona that represents the best version of themselves who attends school every day.
  • Have them design and color their superhero masks.
  • Encourage them to think about what special powers their superhero has that help them come to school daily.

Step 4

Richter Scale Self-Assessment

7 minutes

  • Distribute the Richter Scale Self-Assessment Worksheet.
  • Explain how the Richter scale works and guide the students through assessing their own attendance.
  • Have students mark where they think they are on the scale and set a goal for improvement.

Step 5

Sharing and Reflection

8 minutes

  • Allow students to share their superhero masks and personas with the group.
  • Invite them to discuss how their superhero could help them improve their attendance.
  • Reflect on the self-assessment and discuss steps they can take to reach their attendance goals.
  • Congratulate them on their creativity and commitment to improving attendance.
