Reading

Discussion
Story Elements Discussion
Purpose: In this discussion, students will revisit El Bosque Encantado Reading Passage to identify and analyze the four key narrative elements in Spanish. This activity deepens comprehension and prepares them for creating their own stories.
Teacher Guidelines
- Seat students in small groups of 3–4 to encourage collaboration.
- Project or distribute the reading passage for easy reference.
- Write the four headings on the board: Personaje, Escenario, Problema, Solución.
- Give each group a colored marker to add their answers under each heading.
- Circulate and prompt groups to explain their choices in Spanish.
Discussion Prompts
1. Personaje (Character)
Follow-Up Questions
Activity
Storytelling Board Craft
Purpose: In this hands-on activity, students will use art to map out and label the four narrative elements (Personaje, Escenario, Problema, Solución) in Spanish. This reinforces vocabulary, story structure, and creative expression.
Materials:
- Storytelling Board Template (one per student)
- Colored paper, magazines or printed images for collage
- Markers, crayons, colored pencils
- Scissors, glue sticks
- Post-it notes or small labels (optional for vocabulary words)
Instructions:
- Distribute one Storytelling Board Template to each student along with craft supplies.
- Review each section of the template:
- Personaje: espacio para dibujar o pegar la imagen del personaje.
- Escenario: área para ilustrar el lugar de la historia.
- Problema: recuadro para representar el conflicto.
- Solución: sección para mostrar cómo se resolvió.
- Ask students to choose or invent a character. They draw or collage a picture in the Personaje box and label it (e.g., “El ratón valiente”).
- In the Escenario box, students illustrate the setting with details (colores, sonidos). They write a descriptive phrase below (e.g., “Bosque de nubes rosadas”).
- For Problema, they draw the obstacle and write a short sentence in Spanish explaining the challenge (e.g., “El puente está roto”).
- In Solución, students depict how the characters fix the problem. Encourage creative solutions! They label the image (e.g., “Construyen un barco de hojas”).
- (Optional) Use Post-it notes or labels to add key vocabulary words next to each drawing (personaje, escenario, problema, solución).
- Circulate and support usage of full Spanish phrases and correct spelling.
- When complete, invite a few volunteers to share their boards with the class, describing each element in Spanish.
Extension:
- Pair students to swap boards and write one question about their partner’s story (e.g., “¿Cómo llegó el personaje al escenario?”) on a sticky note.
- Display finished boards on a classroom “Spanish Story Gallery.”
Game
Mini-Charades
Purpose: Reinforce today’s Spanish vocabulary through a fun, kinesthetic guessing game. Students practice acting and speaking in Spanish, boosting retention and confidence.
Materials:
- Charades Word Cards - Session 1
- Timer or stopwatch (optional)
Instructions:
- Divide the class into two teams and have them form lines at the front of the room.
- The first student in Team A draws one Charades Word Card - Session 1 without showing it to classmates.
- Start the timer (30–60 seconds). The student acts out the word silently—no props or sounds!
- Teammates shout out guesses in Spanish (e.g., “¿Es ‘salta’?” “¡Es ‘gato’!”).
- If the team guesses correctly before time runs out, they earn a point. If not, the opposing team gets one guess to steal.
- Rotate to the next student in line and repeat until each student has acted once.
Scoring & Wrap-Up:
- Tally points at the end. Celebrate both teams’ efforts by reviewing a few tricky words together.
- Ask volunteers: “¿Cómo actuaste la palabra ___?” to reinforce full-sentence answers.
Variation:
- For advanced groups, allow one “sound effect” (no words) to make it more challenging.
- Mix in newly created vocabulary cards from student stories in later sessions.
