Step 1

Introduction to Mindfulness

5 mins

  • Welcome the students and explain what mindfulness is: being aware of the present moment.
  • Discuss why mindfulness is important: it can help us feel calm and relaxed.
  • Tell the students that today they will be doing some fun art activities to practice mindfulness.

Step 2

Mandala Coloring

10 mins

  • Distribute mandala coloring sheets and colored pencils.
  • Explain that coloring mandalas can help with focusing on the present.
  • Encourage students to choose colors they like and to color slowly, paying attention to their breathing as they color.
  • Walk around and observe the students, offering praise and gentle guidance as needed.

Step 3

Guided Drawing

10 mins

  • Provide each student with drawing paper, a pencil, and an eraser.
  • Lead a simple guided drawing activity, such as drawing a calming nature scene (e.g., a tree, a flower, or a sun).
  • Encourage students to focus on how it feels to draw each part of the scene and to take their time.
  • Remind them to notice their breathing and to draw slowly.

Step 4

Group Discussion

5 mins

  • Organize the students into a circle for a group discussion.
  • Ask students to share how they felt during the mandala coloring and guided drawing activities.
  • Prompt students to discuss how focusing on their breathing and taking their time with art made them feel.
  • Encourage students to share any other activities they think might help them feel relaxed and mindful.

Step 5

Closure and Reflection

5 mins

  • Gather the students and ask them to share their artwork if they feel comfortable.
  • Discuss how the activities made them feel and if they noticed any changes in their mood or focus.
  • Encourage them to use these art activities at home whenever they need to relax.
  • Thank the students for their participation and celebrate their creativity.
