In this 30-minute lesson, students will engage in mindfulness and relaxation through art activities such as mandala coloring and guided drawing. These activities help young children develop focus, creativity, and emotional regulation.

Step 1
Introduction to Mindfulness

- Welcome the students and explain what mindfulness is: being aware of the present moment.
- Discuss why mindfulness is important: it can help us feel calm and relaxed.
- Tell the students that today they will be doing some fun art activities to practice mindfulness.
Step 2
Mandala Coloring
10 mins
- Distribute mandala coloring sheets and colored pencils.
- Explain that coloring mandalas can help with focusing on the present.
- Encourage students to choose colors they like and to color slowly, paying attention to their breathing as they color.
- Walk around and observe the students, offering praise and gentle guidance as needed.
Step 3
Guided Drawing
10 mins
- Provide each student with drawing paper, a pencil, and an eraser.
- Lead a simple guided drawing activity, such as drawing a calming nature scene (e.g., a tree, a flower, or a sun).
- Encourage students to focus on how it feels to draw each part of the scene and to take their time.
- Remind them to notice their breathing and to draw slowly.
Step 4
Group Discussion

- Organize the students into a circle for a group discussion.
- Ask students to share how they felt during the mandala coloring and guided drawing activities.
- Prompt students to discuss how focusing on their breathing and taking their time with art made them feel.
- Encourage students to share any other activities they think might help them feel relaxed and mindful.
Step 5
Closure and Reflection

- Gather the students and ask them to share their artwork if they feel comfortable.
- Discuss how the activities made them feel and if they noticed any changes in their mood or focus.
- Encourage them to use these art activities at home whenever they need to relax.
- Thank the students for their participation and celebrate their creativity.
