In this lesson, students will learn about the impactful role of art in social movements and create their own pieces with messages for change. This activity promotes creativity, critical thinking, and social awareness.

Step 1

Introduction

10 mins

Welcome the students and introduce the topic of art as a tool for social change. Provide an overview of well-known artworks and movements that have had a significant impact on society.

Step 2

Discussion

15 mins

Facilitate a discussion with the students using the Art and Activism discussion attachment. Encourage them to share their thoughts on how art can influence society and what messages they think are important today.

Step 3

Art Activity

30 mins

Distribute the art supplies and the Creating Art with a Message worksheet. Guide the students to brainstorm and create their own artwork that conveys a social or political message they are passionate about.

Step 4

Sharing and Reflection

5 mins

Have the students share their artwork with the group and discuss the messages behind their creations. This is a time for reflection and positive feedback.
