Slide Deck

Welcome to Dreamland!

Today we will learn:

  • Why we need sleep
  • Fun bedtime routines
  • How to have sweet dreams

Welcome the class with excitement. Say: “Today we’re going to visit Dreamland and learn why sleep is so important!” Encourage students to wave if they love nap time.

Why Sleep Matters

  • Helps our bodies grow
  • Gives us energy to play
  • Makes our brains feel happy

Explain that sleep is like charging a battery. Ask: “What happens when we don’t charge our toys?” Link to how our bodies need rest.

Step 1: Brush Your Teeth

  • Keeps teeth healthy
  • Stops “sugar bugs”
  • Freshens our smile

Show a big toothbrush picture. Ask students to pretend to brush their teeth. Emphasize cleaning away sugar and germs before bed.

Step 2: Put On Cozy Pajamas

  • Soft and warm
  • Helps us feel comfy
  • Ready for snuggles

Invite a student volunteer to model putting on pajamas (real or pretend). Talk about feeling cozy and warm.

Step 3: Read a Bedtime Story

  • Calms our minds
  • Sparks our imagination
  • Gets us sleepy

Hold up a picture book. Ask: “Who likes stories before bed?” Encourage students to share favorite characters.

Step 4: Lights Out and Sweet Dreams

  • Turn off lamps
  • Close your eyes
  • Drift into Dreamland

Tell students: “Now we turn off the lights and say goodnight!” Softly dim the room lights to model.

  • Blank drawing paper or story template sheets
  • Crayons, colored pencils, or markers
  • Regular pencils or erasable pens
  • Stickers (optional for decoration)

Time: 10 minutes

    • Show an example bedtime story page with illustration and text.
  2. Brainstorm Your Story (2 minutes)

    • Ask students: “Who is in your story? Where does it happen? What bedtime routine will your character do?”
    • Write a few ideas on chart paper (e.g., brushing teeth, snuggling with a teddy).
  3. Illustrate Your Scene (3 minutes)

    • Distribute paper and coloring tools.
    • Ask students to draw:
      • A character getting ready for bed
      • A simple bedroom or nighttime setting

  4. Write Your Story (3 minutes)

    • Prompt students to write one sentence about their drawing.
“My teddy and I brush our teeth before bed.”
    • Provide two lines for writing:
      ____________________________________________________

      ____________________________________________________

  5. Decorate & Share (1 minute)

    • Invite volunteers to show their picture and read one sentence.
    • Encourage applause and positive feedback.

Extension/Home Connection:
