Step 1

Introduction

10 mins

  • Welcome students and explain the activity: creating apple-shaped sun catchers.
  • Discuss the significance of apples in autumn and how sun catchers can brighten up a room.
  • Show examples of completed sun catchers to inspire creativity.

Step 2

Preparation

10 mins

  • Distribute clear contact paper and tissue paper to each student.
  • Provide scissors, markers, and apple-shaped templates.
  • Explain how to safely handle scissors and use the templates.

Step 3

Creating Sun Catchers

30 mins

  • Have students select and trace apple shapes onto the contact paper using markers.
  • Cut out the apple shapes carefully.
  • Tear or cut tissue paper into small pieces.
  • Peel the backing off the contact paper and arrange tissue paper pieces on the sticky side to fill in the apple shape.
  • Once filled, cover the design with another piece of contact paper to seal it.
  • Use a hole punch to make a hole at the top of the apple and thread a piece of string or yarn through it for hanging.

Conclusion and Reflection

  • Have students share their completed sun catchers with the group.
  • Facilitate a discussion on what they enjoyed about the activity and what they found challenging.
