Anxiety Busters: Coping Skills Workshop

Identify triggers for anxiety

This lesson plan is designed to help students in grades 2-5 identify their personal triggers for anxiety and develop effective coping skills. Through a series of eight 30-minute sessions, students will engage in experiential and game-based learning activities, discussions, and collaborative exercises. This lesson is important as it empowers students with the tools to manage anxiety, promoting emotional well-being and resilience.

Step 1

Introduction

5 mins

  • Welcome students and introduce the topic of anxiety and coping skills.
  • Explain the importance of understanding personal triggers and developing coping strategies.

Step 2

Activity

15 mins

  • Distribute printed scenarios depicting common anxiety triggers.
  • In pairs, students discuss how they would feel and react in each scenario.
  • Use coping skills cards to brainstorm possible coping strategies for each scenario.

Step 3

Discussion

5 mins

  • Facilitate a group discussion using prepared questions to reflect on the activity.
  • Encourage students to share their thoughts and any new coping strategies they learned.

Step 4

Exit Ticket

5 mins

  • Hand out exit ticket templates.
  • Ask students to write down one new coping skill they learned and one trigger they identified.

Step 5

Closure

5 mins

  • Recap the session's key points.
  • Encourage students to practice their new coping skills at home.
