Manage anxiety with various strategies

This lesson introduces Grade 5 students to strategies for managing anxiety, including physical activity, journaling, and art. Students will try each method and discuss their effects. Step 1

Introduction

10 mins

  • Begin with a brief discussion on what anxiety is and how it can affect us.
  • Ask students if they have ever felt anxious and what they did to feel better.
  • Explain that today they will learn different ways to manage anxiety.

Step 2

Physical Activity

15 mins

  • Lead the students in a simple physical activity, such as stretching or a short walk around the classroom.
  • Discuss how physical activity can help reduce anxiety by releasing endorphins.

Step 3

Journaling

15 mins

  • Provide each student with a journal and pen.
  • Ask them to write about a time they felt anxious and what they did to cope.
  • Encourage them to express their feelings freely and remind them that journaling can be a private way to manage emotions.

Step 4

Art Activity

15 mins

  • Distribute art supplies to the students.
  • Instruct them to draw or create something that makes them feel calm or happy.
  • Discuss how art can be a therapeutic way to express emotions and reduce anxiety.
