Ancient Egypt: Wonders!

Let's explore an amazing old civilization!

Welcome students. Display this title slide. Ask students if they know anything about Egypt or pyramids. Get them excited about learning about a new, old place!

Pyramid

A big, stone building.
A special house for kings.

Point to the image of the pyramid. Say the word 'Pyramid' clearly and slowly. Have students repeat. Explain it simply: 'It's a big, pointy building made of stone. Kings used it as a special house after they died.' Use hand gestures to show 'big' and 'pointy.'

Pharaoh

The king of Ancient Egypt.
A very important person!

Point to the image of the pharaoh. Say the word 'Pharaoh' clearly and slowly. Have students repeat. Explain: 'A pharaoh was like a king in Ancient Egypt. They were very powerful people.' You can make a crown gesture on your head.

Nile River

A very long river in Egypt.
Gives water for life!

Point to the image of the Nile River. Say 'Nile River' clearly and slowly. Have students repeat. Explain: 'The Nile is a very long river in Egypt. It gave water to the land for plants and to people for drinking. It was very important for life in Egypt.' You can make a long wavy motion with your arm.

Review: What did we learn?

What is a Pyramid?
Who was a Pharaoh?
What is the Nile River?

This is a review slide. Ask students questions like: 'What is this?' while pointing to a pyramid image. Encourage them to say 'Pyramid!' Do the same for 'Pharaoh' and 'Nile River.' Praise all attempts and correct gently if needed. You can also ask, 'What was a pharaoh?' (A king!).
