Welcome, everyone! Today we're going to learn about the letter A through a fun song and some activities. Get ready to sing, move, and explore words that start with A.

Today's Goals

• Sing the Amazing A Song with actions

Introduce the goals so students know what to expect. Emphasize listening, singing, and recognizing A-words.

Warm-Up: Letter A Sound & Shape

  • Show a big letter A on the board
  • Ask: “What letter is this? What sound does it make?”
  • Preview with a few Letter A Flashcards

Display a large letter A on chart paper or whiteboard. Ask volunteers to name it and make the sound. Hold up a couple of flashcards to preview the /a/ sound.

Sing the Amazing A Song

  • Distribute Letter A Song Lyric Sheet
  • Play twice: listen first, then sing together
  • Use hand motions to trace the letter A as you sing

Hand out lyric sheets. Play the song once all the way through for listening. Then replay and lead students in singing and tracing the letter shape in the air.

Cue the audio track. Encourage students to follow along by pointing to the letter on their lyric sheets. Use this slide as the playback screen.

Flashcard Word Recognition

Hold up each flashcard one by one. Invite students to say the word, stressing the beginning /a/ sound. Encourage volunteers to share additional A-words.
