Alphabet Story Time
Creativity and Literacy Skills
Students will listen to and create stories that highlight each letter of the alphabet. This lesson encourages creativity and literacy skills through storytelling and drawing. Engaging young students in such activities fosters a love for reading and writing from an early age.
Pre-Kindergarten to 1st Grade

Large picture book with alphabet stories, Drawing paper, Crayons/Markers, Printable alphabet cards, and Discussion Questions Handout
- Gather students in a comfortable reading area.
- Introduce the lesson by explaining that they will be listening to stories about the alphabet and creating their own stories.
- Show them a large picture book with alphabet stories and briefly go over some examples.
Step 2
Alphabet Story Reading

- Read 3-4 stories from the alphabet book.
- Pause after each story to ask questions about the letter highlighted in the story.
- Engage students by asking them to identify objects or characters beginning with the highlighted letter.
Step 3
Create Your Story
10 mins
- Hand out drawing paper and crayons/markers to each student.
- Distribute one printable alphabet card to each child or pair of children.
- Encourage students to create their own story based on the letter they received.
- Ask them to draw characters and objects that start with their specific letter and narrate a short story about it.
Step 4
Sharing and Discussion
5 mins
- Allow students to share their drawings and stories with the class.
- Facilitate a discussion using the printable discussion questions handout.
- Encourage students to give positive feedback to their peers.
