All About Us

Getting to Know Our New Friends!

Welcome everyone! Today we’re going to learn about each other and make new friends. Use this slide to introduce yourself and set a positive tone. Encourage kids to smile and look around at their classmates.

Let’s Share!

• What is your favorite hobby?
• What is your favorite food?
• Do you have a pet? What’s its name?

Advance to this slide. Read each prompt aloud and invite volunteers to share one answer at a time. Encourage short follow-up questions like “Why do you like that?” or “How long have you done that?”

Getting-to-Know-You Bingo

  1. Find classmates who match a square.
  2. Introduce yourself and ask them to sign that square.
  3. Get five in a row to call out “Bingo!”

Hand out the Getting-to-Know-You Bingo Cards and pencils. Explain that students will walk around, introduce themselves, and find classmates who match the descriptions in the squares. They should get that classmate’s signature. The first to get five in a row calls 'Bingo!'

What Did We Learn?

• Who did you learn something new about?
• What surprised you?
• How does it feel to know more friends?

Ask the Bingo winner to share one fun fact they learned. Then invite two more students to share something surprising about a classmate. Praise everyone for participating and celebrate the new connections.

Great Job Today!

Remember to wear your name tags tomorrow so we can keep learning about each other.

Thank the class for their energy and participation. Remind students to wear their name tags tomorrow so you can continue getting to know each other.

Discussion

All About Us Discussion

Purpose

Help every student feel seen and heard by sharing personal interests and learning about classmates in a supportive, respectful space.

Discussion Guidelines

  • Raise your hand and wait to be called on before sharing.
  • Listen respectfully to each speaker—look at them and clap or nod when they finish.
  • Use kind words and ask positive questions.

Discussion Prompts

  1. What is your favorite hobby? Why do you enjoy it?
  2. What is your favorite food? Who else likes that food?
  3. Do you have a pet? What’s its name, and what makes it special?

(Use the All About Us Slide Deck to display each prompt one at a time.)

Follow-Up Questions

  • "Why do you like that?"
  • "How long have you been doing that?"
  • "What’s something funny or surprising about it?"
  • "Has anyone else here tried that?"

Facilitation Tips

  • Think-Pair-Share: If some students are shy, have them first turn to a neighbor to share, then volunteers share with the whole group.
  • Sentence Stems: Display or post stems like:
    • “My favorite hobby is ___ because ___.”
    • “I like ___ best because ___.”
  • Visual Supports: Show a picture (or act it out) when you introduce each prompt to help English learners.
  • Differentiation: Allow students who struggle with speaking to draw or use one-word/post-it notes to share their answer.

Transition to Activity

After the group discussion, remind students that they’ll use these same questions while playing Bingo. Encourage them to listen carefully during Bingo so they can learn even more about their classmates!
