All About Me Collage

Getting to know you

In this lesson, students will create a collage that represents their interests, hobbies, and family. This activity allows them to express themselves creatively and share their unique stories with their classmates. It helps build a sense of community and understanding among students.

Step 1

Introduction

10 mins

  • Welcome the students to the activity.
  • Explain that today they will create collages to help everyone get to know each other better.
  • Describe what a collage is and show an example.
  • Discuss the importance of understanding and appreciating each other's differences and unique qualities.

Step 2

Brainstorming Session

10 mins

  • Hand out the 'All About Me Brainstorm Worksheet.'
  • Have students fill out the worksheet, thinking about things that are important to them: hobbies, family, friends, favorite foods, places they have been, etc.
  • Encourage students to think broadly and be honest about what makes them special.

Step 3

Collage Creation

30 mins

  • Provide construction paper, magazines, scissors, glue sticks, and markers/crayons.
  • Instruct students to cut out images and words from the magazines that represent them and glue them onto the construction paper.
  • Encourage creativity – they can also draw and write on their collage.
  • Walk around the room and offer support and encouragement as needed.

Step 4

Sharing and Reflection

  • Once the collages are complete, have students share their collages with the class.
  • Allow each student a few minutes to explain their collage and what the images and words represent.
  • Facilitate a discussion about what students learned about each other and how they feel after the activity.
