All About Me Adventure

Students will create personalized name tags, draw self-portraits, and share fun facts to introduce themselves and build a welcoming classroom community.

This lesson helps children feel seen and connected on day one, boosts confidence, and fosters friendships through creative expression and peer interaction.

Step 1

Welcome & Introduction

5 minutes

  • Gather students in a circle on the carpet
  • Teacher greets each child by name as they sit down
  • Explain today’s adventure: learning all about each other with fun activities

Step 2

Name Tag Decorating

7 minutes

  • Distribute the Name Tag Templates and crayons/markers
  • Prompt students to write or trace their name and decorate with drawings or stickers
  • Teacher circulates to assist with letter formation

Step 3

Self-Portrait Drawing

8 minutes

  • Hand out the Self-Portrait Worksheet
  • Ask students to draw themselves, including favorite clothes or hairstyle
  • Encourage use of color and detail; teacher praises efforts

Step 4

Pair Share with Question Cards

7 minutes

  • Pair students and give each pair a set of All About Me Question Cards
  • Students take turns drawing a card and asking their partner the question (e.g., “What’s your favorite color?”)
  • Teacher monitors pairs, prompts quieter students

Group Sharing & Wrap-Up

  • Invite 2–3 volunteers to share one fun fact they learned about a partner
  • Display decorated name tags and portraits on a classroom bulletin board

Gather students on the carpet in a circle. Greet each child by name as they sit down. Explain that they’ll make name tags, draw self-portraits, ask questions in pairs, and share.

Name Tag Decorating

• Distribute Name Tag Templates and crayons/markers
• Write or trace your name
• Decorate with drawings or stickers

Distribute the templates and encourage students to write or trace their names. Circulate to assist with letter formation and praise creative decorations.

Self-Portrait Drawing

• Hand out Self-Portrait Worksheet
• Draw yourself: hairstyle, clothes, favorite things
• Use colors and details

Hand out the worksheets and encourage children to draw themselves with details (hair, clothes, favorite items). Praise use of bright colors and creativity.

Pair Share

• Pair up with a friend
• Draw a card from All About Me Question Cards
• Take turns asking and answering each question

Pair students and give each pair question cards. Prompt quieter children, model one example if needed, and circulate to listen in.

Group Sharing & Wrap-Up

• Invite 2–3 volunteers to share a fun fact
• Display name tags and portraits on our bulletin board
• Celebrate our new class community

Invite a few volunteers to share one fun fact they learned about their partner. Hang name tags and portraits on the bulletin board. Praise everyone for participating.
