Gather all listed materials. Set up three distinct play stations in the classroom: a block area, a play-doh table, and a sensory bin area. Ensure each station is easily accessible and safe for 3-year-olds. Review the instructions for each activity.

Step 1

Wiggle & Giggle Movement Song

5 minutes

Start with a fun, interactive movement song (e.g., 'If You're Happy and You Know It'). Encourage students to sing along and mimic actions. This helps get their bodies moving and prepares them for play.

Step 2

Free Play: Adventure Stations

20 minutes

Explain to students that they get to choose an 'Adventure Station' for screen-free play. Clearly define the rules for each station (e.g., 'share the blocks,' 'keep Play-Doh at the table,' 'sensory bin materials stay in the bin'). Divide students into small groups or allow them to choose stations, rotating every 5-7 minutes if needed, or allowing free exploration. The stations are:

  • Building Blocks: Encourage students to build towers, houses, or anything they can imagine. Prompt them with questions like, 'What are you building?' or 'How tall can you make it?'
  • Play-Doh Fun: Provide various Play-Doh colors and simple tools (cutters, rollers). Encourage squishing, rolling, and shaping. This is great for fine motor development.
  • Sensory Bin: Fill a bin with a base like rice or dried pasta, and add scoops, cups, and small animal figures or pom-poms. Let children explore textures and practice scooping and pouring.

Story Time and Reflection

Gather students together. Read a short, engaging picture book. After the story, invite a few students to briefly share something fun they did at an 'Adventure Station.' Ask questions like, 'Who built something amazing?' or 'What did you make with the Play-Doh?' This helps them reflect on their play.
