Slide Deck

Adjective + Noun Adventure

Welcome to our Adjective + Noun Adventure!

• We’ll learn two special word types.
• Then we’ll mix them to make fun phrases.

Greet the student warmly. Explain that today’s adventure is all about making sentences more exciting by mixing two word types.

What Is an Adjective?

An adjective is a word that describes a person, place, or thing.

Examples:
• happy
• blue
• loud

Introduce the term “adjective.” Show a few Adjective Cards and model reading one aloud. Ask the student to describe something using that word.

What Is a Noun?

A noun is a person, place, or thing.

Examples:
• dog
• car
• tree

Introduce the term “noun.” Show Noun Cards and model naming one. Have the student pick one and tell you what it is.

See How They Pair

Combine an adjective + a noun to make a phrase:

• blue + car = blue car
• happy + dog = happy dog

Demonstrate pairing: pick one adjective card and one noun card. Read “happy dog” and talk about the picture it makes in our minds.

Your Turn to Create

  1. Pick one adjective card.
  2. Pick one noun card.
  3. Write or draw your new phrase.
  4. Try making 2–3 different phrases.

Hand over the Adjective-Noun Worksheet or blank paper. Guide the student through choosing cards and writing/sketching two to three phrases.

Wrap-Up & Praise

Great job creating descriptive phrases!

• Which phrase did you like best?
• Remember: adjectives make your nouns more interesting!

Keep being descriptive!

Review the student’s phrases. Ask which is their favorite and praise their choices. Encourage using descriptive words whenever they speak or write.
