Addition fun

In this 'Addition Adventure,' students will embark on a treasure hunt around the classroom. They will solve addition problems at various stations to find clues that eventually lead them to a treasure. This engaging activity combines physical movement, problem-solving, and teamwork, making learning addition fun and memorable.

Step 1

Introduction

5 mins

Welcome students and explain that they will go on an adventure to find a hidden treasure in the classroom.
Introduce the concept of addition and how it will help them find the clues.
Explain that there will be different stations around the room, each with an addition problem to solve.

Step 2

Station Setup

5 mins

Before class, place the clue cards at various stations around the room.
Ensure each clue card has an addition problem that students need to solve to find the next clue.
For example, the first clue could be a problem like '3 + 2,' and the answer will indicate where the next clue is hidden.

Step 3

Treasure Hunt

15 mins

Split students into small groups and give each group a starting clue.
Students solve the addition problem on their clue card and move to the location the answer points to.
At each subsequent station, they find a new addition problem to solve until they find the treasure.
Assist groups as needed to ensure all students are engaged and understand the problems.

Step 4

Closure

5 mins

Once all groups have found the treasure, gather students back together.
Recap the adventure and discuss what they learned about addition.
Hand out a small reward to each student for their participation and teamwork.
Conclude with a brief reflection on why addition is important and where they might use it in their daily lives.
