Setting SMART Goals
Use these criteria for your goal:
• Specific – What exactly will you do?
• Measurable – How will you track progress?
• Achievable – Is it realistic?
• Relevant – Does it matter to your social growth?
• Time-bound – When will you accomplish it?
Introduce the SMART framework. Write each element on the board and give a quick student example.
Example SMART Goal
“I will ask one new classmate a question each week for the next month.”
• Specific: one new classmate
• Measurable: one question/week
• Achievable: easy to fit into class time
• Relevant: builds conversation skills
• Time-bound: over four weeks
Model a concrete SMART goal on the board. Walk through each element to show how it fits SMART criteria.
