Activity

My Sleep Superpower Shield Craft

Objective: Students will create a visual representation of their "sleep superpower" to reinforce the benefits of sleep.

Materials:

  • Construction paper (various colors)
  • Crayons, markers
  • Safety scissors
  • Glue sticks

Instructions:

  1. Introduce the idea: "We're going to make a special shield, like a superhero's shield, to show off our sleep superpower!"

  2. Make the shield shape: Give each student a piece of construction paper. Instruct them to draw a large shield shape (or provide a template if needed) and cut it out.

  3. Decorate the shield:

    • "On your shield, draw pictures or symbols of what sleep helps you do. For example, you might draw a strong arm, a happy face, or a brain thinking!"
    • "You can also draw stars, moons, or comfy beds to remind you of good sleep."
    • Encourage them to use bright colors.
  4. Add a "superpower" word: "If you can, write the word 'SLEEP' or 'SUPERPOWER' on your shield, or have the teacher help you write it."

  5. Share and Display: Have students share their shields with a partner or the class, explaining what they drew. Display the shields in the classroom as a reminder.
