Step 1

Warm-Up: Share Your Spooky Plans (5 minutes)

5 minutes

Trick-or-Treat Smarter!

Your Guide to a Spooktacular and Safe Halloween!

Welcome students and build excitement for Halloween while setting the stage for safety. Ask: "What are you most excited about for Halloween?"

Watch Out, Walk Smart!

Pedestrian Safety Tips

  • Always walk on sidewalks.
  • Look Left, Right, Left before crossing the street.
  • Cross at crosswalks or corners.
  • Walk with an adult or older buddy.
  • Be extra careful when it's dark!

Emphasize pedestrian safety. Talk about sidewalks, looking both ways (left, right, left), using crosswalks, and walking with a grown-up. Ask: "Why is it important to look both ways, even on a quiet street?"

Costume Cool, Costume Safe!

Your Costume Checklist

  • Choose bright colors and add reflective tape.
  • Make sure your costume fits well (not too long!).
  • Can you see clearly? Avoid masks that block your view!
  • Carry a flashlight or glow stick.

Discuss costume choices that are both fun and safe. Highlight visibility (bright colors/reflectors), fit (no tripping), and clear vision (masks). Ask: "What's a creative way to make your costume bright at night?"

Candy Caution!

Sweet Treats, Smart Choices

  • Let an adult check your candy before you eat any.
  • Only eat candy that is still in its wrapper.
  • Never accept unwrapped treats from strangers.
  • Be aware of food allergies for yourself and others.

Address candy safety. Explain the importance of an adult checking candy, avoiding unwrapped treats, and being mindful of allergies. Ask: "Why is it a good idea for a grown-up to check your candy first?"

Be a Halloween Safety Superhero!

Remember These Tips:

  • Walk Smart: Look both ways!
  • Costume Smart: Be seen, see clearly!
  • Candy Smart: Get it checked by an adult!

Have a fun and safe Halloween!

Wrap up by reinforcing the main safety points and encouraging students to be Halloween Safety Superheroes. Ask: "What is one Halloween safety tip you will definitely remember?"
