Routine Check-in: Self-Regulation
Let's reflect on our toolkit use!
Welcome students and introduce the day's lesson. Emphasize that this is a chance to reflect on their learning and practice.
Our Goal Today
Objective: Complete a short regulation skills check and show journal evidence of toolkit use at least twice this week.
Why it Matters: Understanding and using regulation routines helps you manage feelings and stay focused, both in school and outside!
Read the objective and 'why' statement aloud. Connect it to their personal growth and real-life situations.
Do Now: Habit Tracker Update
Take out your habit tracker!
- Update your log for the week.
- Think about a time you used a regulation strategy.
- Be ready to share briefly (optional).
Instruct students to open their habit trackers and update them for the week. Encourage a quick thought about a strategy they used. Ask for a show of hands for those who used a strategy at least once.
Regulation Quick Check
Time for a quick check!
- Complete the Regulation Quick Check (6 items) individually.
- This helps us see what you've learned about self-regulation.
Explain that the quick check is a low-stakes assessment to see what they know. Distribute the quiz and provide clear instructions.
Show Your Evidence!
Now, let's see your progress!
- Submit your Toolkit Use Log.
- Show us at least two times you used a regulation strategy this week!
Explain that their journals are evidence of their learning. Remind them to submit their Toolkit Use Log.
Feedback Time
Growth comes from feedback!
- We'll use the Reflection Quality Rubric to look at your journal evidence.
- This helps you understand how to make your reflections even stronger.
Explain that feedback helps them grow. Mention the rubric that will be used. If doing buddy feedback, explain the process.
What's Your Next Strategy?
One step at a time!
- On your Exit Ticket Next Strategy, write down ONE specific self-regulation strategy you will focus on using this coming week.
- Make it a SMART goal: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound!
Guide students to think about one concrete strategy they will focus on for the next week. Have them complete the exit ticket.
