In this lesson, teens will research, plan, and create pumpkin-based recipes. They will then present their dishes, focusing on teamwork and culinary skills. This lesson will empower students to collaborate effectively and build confidence in cooking.

Step 1

Introduction

10 mins

  • Welcome students and explain the objectives of the lesson: to research, plan, and create pumpkin-based recipes, focusing on teamwork and culinary skills.
  • Briefly discuss why cooking and teamwork are important skills.

Step 2

Research Phase

20 mins

  • Divide students into small teams.
  • Provide recipe books and/or internet access to research pumpkin-based recipes.
  • Instruct each team to select a recipe they wish to create, ensuring they note down all required ingredients and steps.

Step 3

Planning Phase

15 mins

  • Have teams finalize their recipe selection.
  • Instruct them to create a plan, including who will be responsible for each step in the cooking process and a list of ingredients needed.

Step 4

Cooking Phase

60 mins

  • Allow teams to gather their ingredients and start cooking their chosen recipes.
  • Circulate the room to assist and ensure safety protocols are followed.
  • Remind teams of the time periodically.

Step 5

Presentation Phase

10 mins

  • Once cooking is complete, have each team present their dish to the class.
  • Encourage them to explain their recipe choice, the process, and what they learned about teamwork and culinary skills.

Step 6

Reflection and Discussion

5 mins

  • Facilitate a short reflection where each student shares one thing they learned or enjoyed about the activity.
  • Discuss how they can apply these skills in other areas of their life.
