🌷🌷🌷 + 🌷🌷 = ?

How many flowers are there altogether?

Show the second example. Repeat the process of counting and finding the total. Write the addition sentence.

Practice Together!

Look at the ducks!

πŸ¦†πŸ¦† + πŸ¦†πŸ¦†πŸ¦† = ?

Picture Perfect Addition Script

Warm-Up: Counting Fun (5 minutes)

(Teacher displays Picture Perfect Addition Slide Deck - Slide 1)

"Good morning, everyone! Let's get our brains warmed up with some counting. Look at the screen. What do you see? That's right, apples! Let's count them together. Ready? One, two, three... all the way to nine! Excellent! Nine apples in total. You are super counters!"

Introduction: What is Addition? (10 minutes)

(Teacher displays Picture Perfect Addition Slide Deck - Slide 2)

"Today, we're going to learn about something really fun called addition! Can you say that with me? Addition!"

"Addition is when we take two groups of things and put them together to find out how many we have in all. It's like combining your toys or your crayons to see your total collection!"

"When we add, we use a special sign called a plus sign. It looks like a little cross (+). And when we find our total, we use the equals sign (=). It tells us what the answer is, or how many we have altogether."

(Teacher displays Picture Perfect Addition Slide Deck - Slide 3)

"Let's look at our first example with these friendly fish! In the first bowl, how many fish do you see? (Pause for response) Two! Good job! And in the second bowl? (Pause for response) One!"

"So, we have two fish and one fish. If we put them together, two plus one, how many fish do we have in total? Let's count them all: one, two, three! That's right! Two plus one equals three!"

(Teacher displays Picture Perfect Addition Slide Deck - Slide 4)

"Now, let's try with these beautiful flowers. How many flowers are in the first vase? (Pause for response) Three! And in the second vase? (Pause for response) Two!"

"So, three flowers plus two flowers. If we put them all together, let's count: one, two, three, four, five! Wow! Three plus two equals five! You're getting the hang of this!"

Guided Practice: Let's Add Together! (10 minutes)

(Teacher displays Picture Perfect Addition Slide Deck - Slide 5)

"Okay, now it's your turn to help me! Look at these cute ducks. In the first group, how many ducks? (Pause for response) Two! And in the second group? (Pause for response) Three!"

"So, two ducks plus three ducks. How many is that all together? Let's count them all! One, two, three, four, five! So, two plus three equals five! Great job! We can write that as 2 + 3 = 5."

(Teacher displays Picture Perfect Addition Slide Deck - Slide 6)

"Next up, balloons! Who loves balloons? Let's count the first group. (Pause for response) Four! And the second group? (Pause for response) Two!"

"If we add four balloons plus two balloons, how many do we have in total? Let's count them all! One, two, three, four, five, six! Fantastic! Four plus two equals six! So we write 4 + 2 = 6."

(Teacher displays Picture Perfect Addition Slide Deck - Slide 7)

"Last one for our practice! Look at these shiny stars. How many in the first group? (Pause for response) Three! And in the second group? (Pause for response) Four!"

"Three stars plus four stars. Let's find the total! One, two, three, four, five, six, seven! Amazing! Three plus four equals seven! So we write 3 + 4 = 7."

Independent Practice: Worksheet Time (10 minutes)

"You all did such a wonderful job practicing together! Now it's time to show what you know on your own. I'm going to hand out a Picture Perfect Addition Worksheet."

"On your worksheet, you will see more pictures. Your job is to count the pictures in each group, just like we did, and then write the addition sentence to find the total. Remember to use your counting skills! Take your time and do your best. I will be walking around if you need any help."

Activity: Picture Pairing Fun! (8 minutes)

"Alright, mathematicians! Put your worksheets to the side for a moment. We're going to do a fun activity called Picture Perfect Addition Activity! I'm going to put you into small groups or pairs."

"Each group will get some small objects or pictures. Your task is to create your own addition problems! Take two groups of objects, put them together, and then tell your partner or group the addition sentence. For example, if you have two blue blocks and three red blocks, you would say 'Two plus three equals five!' Be creative!"

Cool-Down: Share and Reflect (2 minutes)

"Alright, everyone, let's bring it back together. Can a few groups share an addition problem they created during the activity? (Call on 2-3 students to share)."

"Wonderful sharing! So, what did we learn today? Addition is all about putting groups together to find the total. And pictures helped us see and count! You all did an amazing job learning about picture perfect addition today! Give yourselves a pat on the back!"
