Lesson Plan

Life Skills Fair Fun!

Students will be introduced to foundational life skills, including self-esteem, decision-making, and healthy choices regarding tobacco, alcohol, and drugs, through engaging and interactive fair activities.

Empowering students with these skills early on helps them build confidence, make positive decisions, and resist negative pressures, setting a strong foundation for a healthy future.

Interactive stations with games and discussions.

Materials

  • Fair Fun Slide Deck, - Healthy Choices Challenge Worksheet, - Skill Builder Spinner Game, - My Super Self Activity, - Markers, crayons, or colored pencils, - Construction paper, and - Small prizes (stickers, pencils, etc.)

Prep

Review Materials and Set Up Stations

15 minutes

  • Review all generated materials: Life Skills Fair Fun! Lesson Plan, Fair Fun Slide Deck, Healthy Choices Challenge Worksheet, Skill Builder Spinner Game, and My Super Self Activity.
    - Print copies of the Healthy Choices Challenge Worksheet and My Super Self Activity.
    - Gather markers, crayons, colored pencils, construction paper, and small prizes.
    - Set up 3-4 distinct stations around the tabling area for different activities. Ensure each station has the necessary materials.

Step 1

Introduction & Welcome (5 minutes)

5 minutes

  • Greet students as they approach the table. Use Fair Fun Slide Deck Slide 1 as a visual.
    - Teacher Script Idea: "Welcome to our Life Skills Fair Fun station! Today, we're going to explore some amazing 'superpowers' that help us make great choices and feel good about ourselves!"
    - Briefly explain the purpose of the stations.

Step 2

Station Rotations (20 minutes)

20 minutes

  • Divide students into small groups (or allow individual exploration if attendance is low) to rotate through the following stations. Allow approximately 5-7 minutes per station.
    - Station 1: Healthy Choices Challenge (Decision-Making & Substance-Free Living)
    - Students complete the Healthy Choices Challenge Worksheet.
    - Teacher Script Idea: "This station is about making smart choices for your body and mind. What are some healthy choices you can make every day?"
    - Discuss the importance of being smoke-free, vape-free, drink-free, and drug-free.
    - Station 2: Skill Builder Spinner (Communication & Social Skills)
    - Students play the Skill Builder Spinner Game.
    - Teacher Script Idea: "Here, we'll practice how to talk to others and be good friends. Spin the wheel and let's see what skill we'll work on!"
    - Facilitate brief role-playing or discussion based on spinner outcomes.
    - Station 3: My Super Self (Self-Esteem)
    - Students engage with the My Super Self Activity.
    - Teacher Script Idea: "You are all amazing! At this station, we celebrate what makes you special and confident."
    - Encourage students to draw or write about their strengths.
    - Circulate among stations to provide guidance and answer questions.

Step 3

Wrap-Up & High Fives (5 minutes)

5 minutes

  • Bring students back together.
    - Briefly recap the skills they explored (self-esteem, decision-making, communication, staying healthy).
    - Teacher Script Idea: "You've all been incredible life skills superheroes today! Remember, these skills help you be the best you can be every single day. Keep making those healthy choices!"
    - Distribute small prizes as students leave.
    - Thank them for participating.

Encourage students to think about their strengths and what makes them unique.

Keep using your superpowers every day to make healthy choices and be awesome!

Thank students for participating and reinforce the importance of life skills.

Game

Skill Builder Spinner Game!

Goal: Practice communication and social skills by responding to different scenarios.

Materials Needed:

  • A paper plate or a piece of cardboard
  • Markers or crayons
  • A paper clip and a pencil (to make the spinner)
  • The list of skill prompts below

How to Prepare the Spinner:

  1. Divide your paper plate/cardboard into 4 sections.
  2. In each section, write one of the following skill categories:
    • Sharing Feelings
    • Listening
    • Helping Others
    • Solving Problems
  3. In the center of the plate, poke a hole with a pencil. Place a paper clip around the pencil point so it can spin freely.

How to Play:

  1. Take turns spinning the paper clip.
  2. Whichever skill category the spinner lands on, choose a prompt from that category below.
  3. Discuss or act out your response to the prompt.
  4. Encourage everyone to share their ideas and listen to each other!

Skill Prompts:

Sharing Feelings

  • How do you tell someone you are feeling happy?


  • What do you do when you feel sad or frustrated? Who can you talk to?


  • Imagine your friend took your toy without asking. How would you tell them how you feel?


Listening

  • What does it look like when you are a good listener?


  • Your friend is telling you about their favorite game. How do you show them you are listening?


  • Someone is talking, and you really want to share your idea. What should you do?


Helping Others

  • How can you help a classmate who dropped their books?


  • Your sibling looks sad. What can you do to help them feel better?


  • What are some ways you can help your teacher in the classroom?


Solving Problems

  • You and a friend both want to use the same swing. What can you do to solve this problem?


  • You accidentally spilled juice. What is the first thing you should do?


  • You lost your favorite pencil. What steps can you take to find it?

Activity

My Super Self Activity: Celebrate Your Inner Superhero!

Goal: To recognize and celebrate your unique strengths and what makes you special!

Materials Needed:

  • My Super Self Activity Template (printout)
  • Crayons, markers, or colored pencils

Instructions:

  1. Meet Your Inner Superhero! On the template, draw a picture of yourself as a superhero! What kind of costume do you have? What's your superhero symbol?












  2. My Superpowers! Think about all the things you are good at, or things that make you a great person. These are your superpowers! Write or draw them in the spaces provided:

    • My Brain Superpower (e.g., I'm good at math, I love reading, I ask good questions):


    • My Heart Superpower (e.g., I'm kind to my friends, I help my family, I care about animals):


    • My Action Superpower (e.g., I'm good at sports, I love to dance, I build amazing things):


    • One more special superpower only I have:


  3. My Superhero Motto! Every superhero has a motto that reminds them how awesome they are. What's your personal motto? (e.g., "I am brave!" "I am a good friend!")



  4. Color Your Hero! Use your crayons and markers to bring your superhero drawing and motto to life with lots of color!

Remember, you are unique and amazing, just like a superhero! Always believe in your superpowers!
