Reinforce CVC word recognition

In this engaging lesson, students will play a Bingo game using CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words to enhance their reading and listening skills. Bingo cards, CVC word list, Markers or chips for Bingo, and Printable Cards: CVC Word Bingo Cards

Step 1

Introduction to CVC Words

5 mins

  • Briefly explain what CVC words are (e.g., cat, dog, hat).
  • Provide examples and ask students to think of their own CVC words.
  • Explain the rules of Bingo and how it will be played using CVC words.

Step 2

Bingo Game

20 mins

  • Distribute Bingo cards and markers/chips to each student.
  • Call out CVC words randomly from the word list.
  • Students mark the words on their Bingo cards as they hear them.
  • The first student to complete a row, column, or diagonal shouts 'Bingo!' and wins the round.
  • Continue playing additional rounds as time allows.

  • Ask students to share which CVC words they found easy or challenging.
