Conquer Task Completion

30-Minute Individual Support Session | 9th Grade

Welcome the student and introduce today’s session on mastering task completion. Highlight that this is a 30-minute one-on-one session tailored for 9th graders.

Session Objectives

• Plan a real academic or personal task by breaking it into steps
• Initiate and monitor progress using time-management tools
• Complete tasks effectively and reflect on strategies

Read aloud each objective and explain why it matters. Encourage the student to keep these goals in mind throughout.

Task Completion Worksheet

Use this worksheet to:

  1. Select a real task (e.g., math homework, science project)
  2. Define the goal and desired completion outcome
  3. Track each step as you work

Show the student the worksheet. Prompt them to select a real task and write down their desired outcome.

Plan with Daily Planner

• Break your chosen task into 3–5 manageable steps
• Estimate time needed for each step
• Assign order and prioritize by deadline or importance

Guide the student through the Daily Planner Template. Help them break their task into 3–5 steps, estimate times, and prioritize.

Timed Work Sessions

• Launch the timer for a focused work interval
• Work on the first step and check off progress
• Record time spent and completion level

Demonstrate the Timer App. Set a timer (e.g., 10 minutes) for the first work session and encourage focus.

Reflect & Adjust

On your Reflection Sheet:
• Note which strategies helped you stay on task
• Identify any challenges faced
• Decide how to adjust time estimates or break steps differently next time

Distribute the Success Reflection Sheet and guide the student through each prompt.

Wrap-Up & Next Steps

• Review key strategies: planning, timed work, reflection
• Set a target for using this process on a new assignment
• Schedule a brief follow-up to refine techniques

Summarize the strategies practiced, celebrate their progress, and set a plan for application to upcoming assignments. Schedule a quick follow-up.
