Celebrating Women with Cards

Create cards for International Women's Day

In this lesson, students will design and create cards to celebrate International Women’s Day. The activity will help students appreciate and recognize the contributions of women globally. This lesson is important as it fosters respect and gratitude towards women, encouraging young learners to value diversity and equality.

Colored paper, Markers, Crayons, Stickers, and Printable card templates

Step 1

Introduction to International Women's Day

5 mins

  • Briefly explain what International Women's Day is and why it is celebrated.
  • Discuss the importance of recognizing women's contributions globally.
  • Ask students if they know any women who inspire them and why.

Step 2

Card Designing Activity

10 mins

  • Distribute colored paper, markers, crayons, and stickers to each student.
  • Provide printable card templates for those who need guidance.
  • Guide students through the card-making process:
    1. Choose Your Card Base: Select a piece of colored paper and fold it in half to create a card shape.
    2. Design the Front: Use markers, crayons, or stickers to decorate the front of the card with designs like flowers or hearts.
    3. Add a Message: Write a message on the front or inside of the card, using templates for inspiration.
    4. Personalize It: Add personal touches by drawing or writing something specific about a woman you admire.
    5. Finish with Details: Add any final decorations to make the card unique.
    6. Prepare to Share: Think about who you would like to give the card to and how you will present it.
  • Walk around to assist and encourage creativity.

Sharing and Reflection

  • Allow students to share their cards with the class if they wish.
  • Discuss how it felt to create something to honor women.
  • Encourage students to give their cards to a woman they admire.
