Cafeteria Crew Survey

Students will provide constructive feedback on school cafeteria meals through a survey, and understand the importance of their input in decision-making.

Student voices are important! This lesson helps students understand that their opinions matter and can lead to positive changes in their school environment, specifically improving cafeteria food for everyone.

Google Forms or similar survey platform (teacher prepared), Cafeteria Crew Survey Slide Deck, and Cafeteria Crew Feedback Survey

Prep

Teacher Preparation

15 minutes

Review the Cafeteria Crew Survey Slide Deck and familiarize yourself with the content.
Prepare the digital survey using a platform like Google Forms. Ensure all questions from the Cafeteria Crew Feedback Survey are accurately entered and the survey is accessible to students.
Ensure computers or tablets are available and charged for student use.
Test the survey link on a student device to confirm functionality.
Review the generated materials as needed.

Step 1

Introduction & Hook (5 minutes)

5 minutes

Begin by asking students what their favorite part of the school day is. (Many will say lunch/recess!)
Introduce the idea of being 'Cafeteria Crew' members who get to share their ideas to make lunch even better. Use the Cafeteria Crew Survey Slide Deck (Slide 1-2).
Explain that their feedback is valuable and helps the school make decisions.

Step 2

Understanding the Survey (5 minutes)

5 minutes

Go through the types of questions they'll see in the survey using the Cafeteria Crew Survey Slide Deck (Slide 3-4).
Emphasize being honest and thoughtful with their answers. Explain that there are no 'right' or 'wrong' answers, only their opinions.

Step 3

Complete the Survey (15 minutes)

15 minutes

Direct students to the online Cafeteria Crew Feedback Survey.
Circulate the room to assist students with any technical issues or questions about the survey content.
Encourage students to take their time and think about each question.

Step 4

Wrap-up & Reflection (5 minutes)

5 minutes

After students complete the survey, bring the class back together.
Ask a few students to share one thing they liked about giving feedback. Use the Cafeteria Crew Survey Slide Deck (Slide 5).
Thank them for being responsible and thoughtful 'Cafeteria Crew' members.
