Setting realistic goals

In this lesson, Achievers will learn the importance of setting realistic goals and creating actionable plans to achieve them. Through engaging group activities, students will brainstorm and map out steps to reach a common goal, fostering teamwork and critical thinking. This lesson is crucial as it equips students with essential life skills, helping them understand the value of planning and perseverance in achieving success.

Post-it notes, Markers, Large paper sheets, Goal Setting Worksheet, and Discussion Questions

Step 1

Introduction

10 mins

  • Begin with a brief discussion on what goals are and why they are important.
  • Ask students to share any goals they have set in the past and discuss the outcomes.

Step 2

Group Activity: Brainstorming

15 mins

  • Divide students into small groups.
  • Provide each group with post-it notes and markers.
  • Ask them to brainstorm a common goal they would like to achieve as a group.
  • Write down ideas on post-it notes and stick them on a large paper sheet.

Step 3

Mapping Out Steps

20 mins

  • Instruct each group to choose one goal from their brainstorming session.
  • Guide them to map out steps needed to achieve this goal on the large paper sheet.
  • Encourage them to think about resources needed, potential challenges, and solutions.

Step 4

Presentation and Feedback

10 mins

  • Have each group present their goal and action plan to the class.
  • Encourage classmates to provide constructive feedback and suggestions.

Step 5

Closure

5 mins

  • Recap the importance of setting realistic goals and having a plan.
  • Distribute the Goal Setting Worksheet for students to fill out individually as homework.
