Step 1
Introduction to Abstract Art

- Briefly explain what abstract art is and show some examples.
- Discuss how abstract art doesn't try to represent reality but instead uses shapes, colors, and textures to achieve its effect.
- Encourage students to share their thoughts on the examples shown.
Step 2
Demonstration

- Show students how to use sponges and sticks to create different textures and effects with paint.
- Demonstrate how to dip the sponge in paint and dab it on the canvas to create patterns.
- Show how to use sticks to draw lines or shapes in the wet paint.
Step 3
Hands-On Painting

- Distribute materials to each student: canvas or thick paper, acrylic paints, sponges, sticks, paintbrushes, water cups, and paper towels.
- Encourage students to experiment with the tools and create their own abstract paintings.
- Walk around the room to provide guidance and encouragement as needed.

Reflection and Discussion

- Once the paintings are complete, have students clean up their workspaces.
- Gather the students in a circle to discuss their artwork.
- Ask students to share their paintings and talk about the techniques they used and what they enjoyed about the process.
