Management Magic Plan

Students will learn and articulate clear classroom expectations—respect, responsibility, and routines—and commit to following them to foster a positive, respectful environment.

Establishing clear expectations and routines at the start of the year helps students understand boundaries, reduces disruptions, and builds a supportive classroom culture.

Prep

Teacher Setup

5 minutes

  • Review Management Magic Plan and familiarize yourself with key points
  • Print and display Classroom Rules Poster prominently
  • Prepare copies of Student Reflections Worksheet for each student
  • Organize Discussion Cue Cards for guided dialogue

Step 1

Introduction & Objective

2 minutes

  • Greet students and explain today's goal: creating a positive learning environment
  • Share the learning objective on the board or screen
  • Prompt students: “Why do classroom rules and routines matter?”

Explore Classroom Expectations

6 minutes

  • Display Classroom Rules Poster
  • Discuss each rule (Respect, Responsibility, Routines) with real-life examples
  • Use Discussion Cue Cards to guide questions and student responses

  • Distribute Student Reflections Worksheet
  • Students write one action for each expectation they will follow daily
  • Invite volunteers to share their commitments and sign or decorate their pledges

Creating a Positive Classroom Environment

Welcome students to today’s lesson. Introduce the slide deck and set a positive tone.

Learning Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

  • Describe three key classroom expectations: Respect, Responsibility, and Routines.
  • Commit to daily actions that support these expectations.

Question: Why do classroom rules and routines matter?

Read the objective aloud. Ask students to think–pair–share on the question provided.

Key Classroom Expectations

  1. Respect: Treat classmates and teacher kindly.
  2. Responsibility: Take ownership of your actions and learning.
  3. Routines: Follow daily procedures to keep the class running smoothly.

Discuss each expectation with students. Invite volunteers to share what each word means.

Examples in Action

  • Respect: Listening quietly when others speak.
  • Responsibility: Turning in homework on time.
  • Routines: Lining up promptly when the bell rings.

Use Discussion Cue Cards to prompt real-life student examples.

Use these prompt cards during the Explore Classroom Expectations segment to spark thoughtful conversation. Shuffle and draw a card, then invite students to respond and ask follow-up questions.

  1. Prompt: “Think of a time when you felt respected by a classmate. What did they do, and how did it make you feel?”
    • Follow-up: “How could you show that same respect to someone else today?”

  2. Prompt: “Imagine someone talks while you’re sharing your idea. How does that impact respect?”
