“What does being recognized for your work in mental health leadership mean to you or your community? – While my name is on the award, I see it as a reflection of the dedication of everyone I work alongside—colleagues, families, and community partners who share the mission of improving mental wellness and awareness. It affirms that the efforts to break stigma and create access to support are making a difference in our communities.”
Jessica Sutcliff is a Family Resource Coordinator in Nelson County Schools, where she supports over 1,100 students and families through needs-based programming, mental health initiatives, and year-round school–community partnerships. She launched the Creek Captains mentoring program to build SEL skills through student leadership and spearheads accessible, inclusive family events that center connection and care. Jessica also co-leads SEL groups, supports classroom programming, and plays a key role in the countywide Yellow Tulip Project to reduce mental health stigma. Her work bridges school, home, and community—anchored in trust, responsiveness, and student voice.
